Foreign nationals deceived with false job promises held in Osogbo apartment; suspect arrested.
Osogbo, Osun State – The Osun State Police Command has successfully rescued fifteen young persons who were victims of a suspected human trafficking syndicate during a coordinated, intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) .
The operation, conducted on February 26, 2026, underscores the Command’s commitment to combating organized crime and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
How the Rescue Happened
Acting on credible information, officers of the Command stormed a three-bedroom flat at Adeleke Estate, Osogbo, where the victims were being held under suspicious circumstances. Preliminary investigations reveal that the victims were transported to Nigeria from Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic after being deceived with false promises of employment and better living opportunities outside their home countries.

The rescued individuals, comprising males and females aged between 20 and 30 years, are:

They are currently receiving necessary attention and protective care. The Police Command is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure their proper rehabilitation and reunification with their families.
Arrests and Manhunt
While some suspects connected to the criminal act have absconded, the Command has launched a manhunt for them. However, the agent who gave out the house to the criminal elements has been arrested and is currently assisting the Police in ongoing investigations.
Commissioner’s Message
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and other forms of organized crime.
He urged parents, guardians, and house owners to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or recruitment schemes to the nearest security agents.
“Human trafficking is a heinous crime that preys on the vulnerable. We will not relent in our efforts to dismantle these criminal networks and bring perpetrators to justice,” CP Gotan stated.
