Kogi West Senator, Sunday Karimi Sunday, on his return from an official trip abroad, visited Yagba West Local Government Area on Thursday to commiserate with families and communities affected by last Wednesday’s deadly bandit attack.
The incident, which left five security operatives dead—three policemen and two vigilantes—plunged the area into mourning and triggered prolonged protests by aggrieved residents.
On arrival in Odo-Ere, headquarters of Yagba West LGA, Senator Karimi met with victims’ families and the wider community, offering heartfelt condolences. He admonished youths to remain law-abiding and vigilant, urging for community synergy and collective responsibility in combating insecurity. The Senator also prayed for the restoration of peace in Nigeria and emphasized the ongoing efforts of Federal and State governments to safeguard lives. In a show of solidarity, he donated ₦1 million to the youth present and appealed for calm.
At the Nigerian Police Force (Egbe Division), Senator Karimi commiserated with officers over the loss of their colleagues. He encouraged them to remain strong and patriotic in the face of adversity. In support of the bereaved, he donated ₦1 million each to the widows and families of the three slain policemen.
The lawmaker also visited the homes of the two vigilantes—Dekunle Adodo and Kayode Joshua—who lost their lives in the attack. He prayed with their families, offered words of comfort, and presented financial support to ease their immediate burdens. Senator Karimi further visited the home of Sunday Ajawe, a constituent recently macheted in a related attack, where he made donations and offered encouragement.
Later, at the palace of the Elegbe of Egbe, Oba Ayodele Irukera, Senator Karimi addressed a gathering of youths and community members, reiterating his calls for peace, vigilance, and patriotism. He urged his constituents to eschew divisive attitudes and embrace cooperation for the development of the senatorial district.
Although abroad when the incident occurred, the Senator revealed that he had been actively monitoring the situation, making critical contacts with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to restore peace and normalcy in the area.
The Senator concluded his visit with prayers for the departed, support for the bereaved families, and a renewed call for unity against insecurity.
