Lagos residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the police have broken up a dangerous car-vandalism syndicate. The ringleader, 46-year-old Jude Onouha, is now in custody after a clever scheme to rob estates was exposed.

Posing as security operatives, the thieves tricked their way into gated communities using an unusual “gun”: a Mercedes-Benz car jack cleverly disguised to look like a firearm. Once inside, they went on a spree, stripping expensive SUVs like Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, and Lexus 650 of high-value parts, including brainboxes, wiring, and side mirrors.
The Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, recovered the fake weapon and other items used by the gang. Onouha has confessed, and an ongoing investigation is underway to track down his accomplices.
This arrest is a critical reminder for estate residents and security staff to be extra careful. CP Jimoh is urging everyone to verify the identity of any so-called “operatives” before letting them in. He also encouraged the public to call the command’s emergency hotlines—08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678—if they see anything suspicious.\
