In a decisive move to sanitize Nigeria’s mining sector, operatives of the Mining Marshals, a specialized unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have conducted a major raid in Saki, Oyo State, targeting illegal mining operations.
The operation led to the shutdown of multiple unlawful mineral extraction sites and the flushing out of illegal miners operating in the area. This forms part of a coordinated nationwide enforcement drive aimed at protecting the country’s strategic mineral resources from illicit exploitation and environmental degradation.
Speaking on behalf of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the supervising commander of the Mining Marshals, John Onoja Attah, commended the operatives for their professionalism and discipline during the operation.
“We are committed to sustaining this pressure until full compliance with mining laws and regulations is achieved across the country,” stated Attah. He emphasized that the enforcement actions are ongoing and that individuals and entities found violating Nigeria’s mining laws will face prosecution.
The crackdown underscores the Federal Government’s renewed focus on regulating the mining industry, combating illegal activities, and ensuring that mineral resources contribute lawfully to national development.
