Jackson Uwagboe sentenced to minimum 21 years for brutal murder of 21-year-old Robert Robinson.
London, United Kingdom – A 19-year-old fugitive who fled to Nigeria after committing one of Deptford’s most brutal murders has been sentenced to life in prison at the Old Bailey, with a minimum term of 21 years.
Jackson Uwagboe was convicted for the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Robert Robinson on June 6, 2024. The attack, which was captured through extensive CCTV evidence, occurred during a violent spree involving robbery and multiple knife assaults.
The Murder
The court heard that Robinson was trying to recover a stolen bicycle when he was chased down by Uwagboe and his co-conspirators. The victim was stabbed at least 12 times, suffering devastating defensive wounds as he fought desperately for his life. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Flight and Return
After the murder, Eromosele Omoluogbe, 24, purchased a plane ticket for Uwagboe to Lagos, Nigeria, and drove him to Heathrow Airport in an attempt to help him escape justice. However, Uwagboe was arrested upon his return at Gatwick Airport, bringing his time as a fugitive to an end.
Co-Conspirators Sentenced
Other members of the group involved in the attack have also faced justice:
· Ryan Wedderburn, 18 – sentenced to life with a minimum of 23 years
· Kirk Harris, 19 – sentenced to life with a minimum of 22 years and 9 months
· Eromosele Omoluogbe, 24 – awaits punishment for assisting an offender by helping Uwagboe flee the country
Investigation
Detectives pieced together the chilling sequence of events using hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, phone records, bank transactions, and DNA evidence. The investigation revealed a calculated and deadly assault, leaving no doubt as to the brutality of the attack.
Justice Served
Handing down the sentence, the judge emphasized the viciousness of the murder and the impact on Robinson’s family. The case serves as a warning that even those who flee the country will eventually face justice.
