A peaceful gesture of mediation has ended in tragedy, as a 39-year-old man lost his life while attempting to settle an argument over public urination in Kogi State’s Adavi Local Government Area.
The victim, identified as Orishagbemi Sunday, was fatally stabbed on [date of incident] after intervening in a dispute between his friend and another man. The incident was confirmed by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya.
According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the deceased’s friend—a vulcanizer based at Ganaja Junction in Lokoja—had urinated near a building belonging to a resident of the area. This action sparked a heated confrontation with the property owner’s son, identified as Sadiq.
Concerned by the escalating altercation, Orishagbemi stepped in to calm both parties and restore peace. However, the situation took a deadly turn when Sadiq allegedly drew a knife and fatally stabbed the mediator.
Suspect in Custody
SP Aya confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that once the probe is concluded, the suspect will be charged and prosecuted accordingly.
“The Kogi State Police Command is committed to ensuring justice is served,” Aya stated during an interview with journalists in Lokoja.
