The atmosphere in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area has begun to calm after days of fear and uncertainty, following the disappearance of a young commercial motorcyclist, Sunday Baba Tunde Joseph.
Joseph, a member of the Okada Riders Association, Ayede Unit, had been declared missing for three days, raising fears among colleagues and residents that he might have fallen victim to criminal gangs operating in the area.
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, security operatives recorded a major breakthrough. Acting on intelligence provided by okada riders, officers arrested two prime suspects linked to the spate of kidnappings, robberies, and killings across Kabba/Bunu.
The first suspect, Omonaye Victor, already on the police wanted list for several kidnapping cases, reportedly confessed during interrogation to killing Sunday Joseph and dumping his body in a river along Edumo Road in Kabba/Bunu.
Hours later, security operatives apprehended Jinde Samuel, a 26-year-old resident of Kajola Quarters, Kabba. Samuel, described by locals as a notorious figure, allegedly admitted being part of the gang behind Joseph’s gruesome murder.
The arrests have sparked mixed emotions — grief over Joseph’s death, yet relief that the killers have been caught. Leaders of the Okada Riders Association described the deceased as a hardworking young man striving to make an honest living.
“This is heartbreaking. He left home with his motorcycle to work, not knowing he was going into the hands of killers. But we thank the police for their swift action,” one association member told reporters.
Residents are now demanding justice and tighter security measures to protect okada riders, who remain vulnerable targets in the region.
Police have assured that both suspects are in custody and will face the full weight of the law. The Divisional Police Officer of Kabba commended residents for their vigilance and encouraged the community to continue sharing intelligence with security agencies.
For the family of late Sunday Joseph, the pain of loss lingers. But for Kabba/Bunu at large, the arrests signal a turning point in the fight against the criminal gangs that have long tormented the area.
