In a significant blow to the criminal support structure in Yagba West Local Government Area, the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) has arrested a suspected drug supplier allegedly fueling banditry in the region. This arrest marks another success in the intensified crackdown on logistics networks aiding criminal operations.
The suspect, identified as Owoloja Femi, an indigene of Ejiba and reportedly the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association (Ejiba Branch), was apprehended on Saturday evening, around 7:30 p.m., in Odo-Eri, along Saminaka Road. JTF operatives intercepted him during a routine patrol.
Caught with Contraband and Cash
According to reliable security sources, Femi was allegedly conveying illicit substances destined for bandits operating in the surrounding forests. While his suspected accomplices managed to flee the scene on a motorcycle, leaving behind two cartons of hard drugs, Femi was apprehended as he attempted to escape.
Preliminary investigations have yielded a confession: the suspect admitted to sourcing the drugs from a chemist in Egbe, intending to deliver them to his associates in the bush. Furthermore, he was found in possession of ₦600,000, which security sources suspect are either proceeds from past illegal transactions or operational funds for the current delivery.
Authorities Vow Prosecution
Owoloja Femi is currently in custody as the investigation expands to trace other members of the criminal network believed to be involved in aiding banditry and the illicit drug trade across Yagba West.
Hon. Tosin Olokun, the Executive Chairman of Yagba West LGA and Chairman of Kogi State ALGON, praised the JTF operatives for their professional response. He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on crime.
“We will not stand by and allow individuals to aid or transact with criminal groups,” Hon. Olokun warned. He assured the public that all suspects found culpable will be handed over to relevant security agencies for prompt prosecution in accordance with the law, reaffirming the commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents.
This arrest signals a clear message from the JTF that the supply lines to criminal elements are being systematically dismantled. The public is urged to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
