Following the recent fire incident in Kabba, the Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Hon. (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael, has cautioned business owners and residents to ensure proper installation of solar systems and inverters.
During his visit to the affected area, the Chairman emphasized that the fire outbreak was caused by substandard wiring and poor solar installation, not criminal acts, as some rumors suggested. He urged residents to always engage certified technicians and use quality copper-based wires to prevent such disasters.
Hon. Dare Michael also condemned the spread of false narratives and ethnic-related claims, describing them as “satanic and punishable.” He commended the swift response of residents and security agencies, while calling for continuous vigilance and community cooperation.
However, in reaction to his remarks, many Okun residents have appealed to the government to address the underlying issue — the lack of stable electricity across Okun land.
Community voices argue that if constant power supply were available, fewer people would rely on solar energy, which in many cases is installed without proper standards due to high costs and limited access to qualified technicians.
Residents are therefore calling on both state and federal authorities to invest in electricity infrastructure that will bring sustainable power to all Okun communities.
“If we have steady light, nobody will bother installing cheap solar panels that can cause fire. We are begging our leaders — let’s fix electricity in Okun land,” a local business owner said.
The call reflects a growing frustration among citizens who feel that despite Okunland’s potential and contributions, basic amenities like electricity remain inconsistent.
As conversations around safety and infrastructure continue, the people hope that the tragic fire incident will serve as a wake-up call to improve power supply, safety standards, and community development across Okunland.
