Another violent attack has been reported along the increasingly dangerous Eruku–Egbe highway, as suspected armed bandits struck again around 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, a traveller driving from Ilorin narrowly escaped death after coming under fire from gunmen between Eruku and Egbe, a route that has become notorious for frequent ambushes.
The victim reportedly escaped unharmed, though bullets riddled his car engine, forcing him to drive on damaged tyres until he reached Egbe town, located in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
This latest incident has further heightened concerns over worsening insecurity along the Eruku–Egbe corridor, which many travellers now describe as a “trap” due to repeated attacks in recent months.
A local source who spoke to Egbe Mekun Parrot confirmed that the ambush occurred less than 24 hours after another attack on a commercial bus in the same area, during which a passenger sustained gunshot wounds.
Residents and commuters are once again calling for urgent security intervention from both Kwara and Kogi State authorities, urging the deployment of patrol teams to restore safety along the inter-state highway.
