Tension has once again gripped commuters along the Eruku–Egbe highway, as armed bandits reportedly launched another attack around 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
According to eyewitness accounts, a traveller driving from Ilorin came under fire from suspected gunmen between Eruku and Egbe, a stretch of road notorious for violent ambushes. The victim narrowly escaped unharmed, though bullets reportedly pierced his car engine before he managed to reach safety in Egbe town, located in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The latest incident heightens fears over the worsening insecurity along the Eruku–Egbe corridor, which many motorists have described as a “death trap” due to repeated attacks in recent months.
A source who spoke to Egbe Mekun Parrot revealed that this ambush occurred barely 24 hours after another attack on a commercial bus in the same area, where one passenger sustained gunshot injuries.
Residents and travellers are once again calling on security agencies and both Kwara and Kogi State authorities to deploy urgent measures to restore safety and confidence along the critical inter-state route.
