Residents of Isanlu Makutu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, were thrown into panic on Sunday night as suspected terrorists attempted to invade the School of Nursing located within the community.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the area in an attempt to overrun the institution, causing fear among students and residents. However, their mission was foiled by the swift intervention of local vigilante operatives who engaged the gunmen in a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted for nearly an hour.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the local security team stood their ground, successfully repelling the attackers and forcing them to retreat into the nearby forest.
“The situation was tense for some time, but the vigilantes were courageous. They exchanged gunfire with the attackers and eventually drove them away,” a resident recounted.
Following the incident, security operatives have been deployed to the area to ensure the safety of students and residents, as well as to prevent any further attacks.
Meanwhile, the attempted invasion occurred just hours after another violent incident along the Ayere–Kabba road in Ijumu Local Government Area, where gunmen ambushed a commercial bus, killing one person and injuring several others.
Witnesses said the attack happened around 5 p.m. on Sunday, with several vehicles narrowly escaping the ambush. One victim was confirmed dead at the General Hospital, while others are currently receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.
Residents have since raised alarm over the growing insecurity along the Ayere–Kabba route, describing it as a dangerous corridor frequently targeted by armed gangs suspected to be operating between Kogi and neighboring Kwara State.
Authorities are urged to intensify security efforts to safeguard communities across Okun land and restore public confidence in local transportation and education facilities.
