There was palpable tension at a recent public engagement in Kogi State as Okun leaders openly questioned the government’s commitment to development in their region.
The event, which featured the Deputy Governor, Hon. Joel Salisu, representing the state administration, turned contentious after Senator Sunday Karimi raised pointed questions about ongoing and completed development projects in Okunland.
However, according to reports, the Deputy Governor’s delegation failed to provide clear or satisfactory answers. Rather than presenting progress updates or outlining concrete plans, observers say the government team appeared evasive — a move that has further deepened public frustration.
Many Okun residents expressed disappointment, accusing the state government of neglect and disrespect.
“We are not valued at all. Dem no rate us,” one participant lamented, reflecting the growing sense of marginalization among the people.
As expectations rise ahead of the next political cycle, Okun stakeholders insist they deserve transparency and tangible development — not empty promises.
