Claimants seek court order amid concerns over controversies sparked by monarch’s outings.
Oyo, Oyo State – Four princes from the Oyo royal family have approached the High Court of Oyo State, seeking an order to restrict the public appearances of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Awoade Adeyemi.
The claimants—Ladigbolu Adegboyega, Owoade Tesleem, Adeyemi Adesina, and Adeyemi Adebayo—filed the suit marked HOY/18/2026, citing dissatisfaction with the controversies that often follow the monarch whenever he appears in public.
In their petition, the princes expressed concerns that the Alaafin’s outings have repeatedly stirred public disputes and negative attention, which they argue undermines the dignity of the throne and brings instability to the palace.
This legal action follows a similar appeal made three weeks ago by the Aare Al Maroof of Yorubaland, who publicly urged the Alaafin to refrain from attending public events for the time being, in the interest of peace and tradition.
The claimants are seeking judicial intervention to formally restrict the king’s public engagements until further notice. No date has been fixed for the hearing as of press time.
Palace sources have yet to comment on the suit, but the case is expected to draw significant attention given the historical and cultural stature of the Alaafin of Oyo.
