Activist seeks federal approval to mobilize men against bandits terrorizing South-West communities.
Ibadan, Oyo State – Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a bold call to the Federal Government, offering to lead a coordinated offensive against terrorists and criminal elements hiding in the forests of Yorubaland.
Speaking in Ibadan on Friday, Igboho declared that he and his men are ready to return to the frontlines of the South-West security crisis—but only with official government approval and support.
“I need the support of the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South-West. I’m ready to enter the forests in Yorubaland with my boys to flush out terrorists who have been attacking our people in rural communities,” Igboho stated.
He stressed that without federal backing, his hands are tied. “We can’t do anything if the Federal Government does not give us approval or support. With my freedom and pardon, I am ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to rid our forests of criminal elements and rogue herders who have become threats to the peace and tranquility of some of our communities.”
The activist’s statement comes amid escalating insecurity across the South-West, including recent attacks in Kwara, Oyo, and border communities in Kogi State. Armed groups have increasingly targeted rural farmers, commuters, and villages, heightening fears of a widening security crisis.
Igboho, who has been living abroad following his release from detention in Benin Republic, previously led local security initiatives in the South-West. His latest offer signals a potential shift in strategy—seeking collaboration rather than confrontation with federal authorities.
Reactions to his statement have been mixed. Some applaud his readiness to defend Yoruba communities, while others urge caution, emphasizing the need for lawful, coordinated security operations that respect human rights and national frameworks.
As of press time, the Federal Government has not responded to Igboho’s proposal.
