RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA | February 15, 2026 – The Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially called upon all Muslims across the Kingdom to sight the crescent moon of the blessed month of Ramadan on the evening of Tuesday, 29 Sha’ban 1447 AH, corresponding to February 17, 2026.
In an official announcement issued today, the Court outlined the religious and procedural framework for the moon sighting, urging the faithful to participate in this sacred duty.
Full Text of the Supreme Court Announcement:
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions altogether.
Based on Supreme Court Decision No. (203/H) dated 29/7/1447 AH, which established that Tuesday, 1/8/1447 AH according to the Umm al-Qura calendar corresponding to 20/1/2026, is the first day of Sha’ban 1447 AH;
The Supreme Court calls upon all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the crescent moon of the blessed month of Ramadan on the evening of Tuesday, 29/8/1447 AH according to the Umm al-Qura calendar corresponding to 17/2/2026.
The Supreme Court requests that anyone who sights it with the naked eye or through binoculars report to the nearest court to record their testimony, or contact the nearest center to assist them in reaching the nearest court.
The Supreme Court also hopes that those who are able to sight the moon will give this matter due attention and join the committees formed in various regions for this purpose, seeking reward and recompense through participation, as it involves cooperation in righteousness and piety and benefits the general body of Muslims.
And Allah is the Granter of success. May prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions altogether.
The announcement sets the stage for the official determination of the start of Ramadan, which will be confirmed based on credible sightings. Muslims worldwide look to Saudi Arabia’s declaration as a key reference for the beginning of the holy month.
The moon sighting committees across the Kingdom are expected to convene on Tuesday evening to receive testimonies and report their findings to the Supreme Court for the final declaration.
