The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, 2025, commission two completed roads and flag off the construction of 12 new roads alongside the rollout of solar-powered street lighting in key parts of Abuja under the Light-Up Abuja Programme.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning and flag-offs will run between September 18 and October 16, 2025, covering 14 major projects.
Roads to be Commissioned
- Access roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District
- Road ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street), Mabushi District
- Road MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street), Mabushi District
Key Projects to be Flagged Off
- Light-Up Abuja Programme: Procurement and installation of hybrid solar streetlights across the city and expressways
- Lot I: Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, CBD, Airport Expressway
- Lot II: Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, Katampe Extension
- Arterial Road N1: Full-scope development from Wuye District to Ring Road II
- Northern Parkway: Construction from Ring Road II to Ring Road III
- Access Road to Mabushi Bus Terminal, Cadastral Zone B06
- Arterial Road N20 (Solomon Lar Way): Development from Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Airport Expressway
- Access Road to Renewed Hope Cities & Estates, Karsana West District
- Bypass Road for Airport Second Runway, from Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki Settlement (with 4-span bridge)
- Access Road to FCT Fire Service Station & Erosion Control, Kaura District (with 3-span bridges)
- Transit Way (2): Linking Central Area with Wuse District (with 2 bridges)
- Mohammed Isa Road Extension, Asokoro District
- Rehabilitation of 15km Old Keffi Road, from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction
- Engineering Infrastructure for Guzape A09 Lots I & II, including AIT Neighborhood, Asokoro District
- Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) and Road ILS 5, Katampe District
- Residences for Heads of Courts, including the President Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of the FCT, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the President of the Industrial Court
Background
This latest rollout follows other recent FCT projects:
- Water Supply Expansion: Flagged off four weeks ago for satellite towns (Bwari and Karu)
- Infrastructure Development: Launched two weeks ago, including a multi-purpose sports centre (Kafe District), a new Magistrate Court (Jabi District), and the emergency reconstruction of Karu Road
With these projects, Wike continues his aggressive push to expand infrastructure, improve connectivity, and enhance public services across the Federal Capital Territory.
