The High Court of Justice, Kogi State (Isanlu Division), has delivered a decisive ruling on the contested Iloko chieftaincy matter, issuing an Interlocutory Injunction that reinforces the legitimacy of the recognized Obaloko-Elect.
In Suit No: KGS/IHC/11/2023, Motion No: HCL/40M/2025, the Court ordered that:
- Mr. Adesoji Aro is restrained from parading himself, performing any rites, or acting in any capacity as the Obaloko of Iloko.
- The 3rd–10th Respondents, including traditional and governmental authorities, are similarly restrained from recognising him, issuing a staff of office, or installing him in the role.
- These orders remain valid pending the full hearing and final determination of the substantive suit.
The Court’s ruling aligns with the earlier decision of the Iloko Council of Elders and Kingmakers, who lawfully selected Oba Odebola Julius Odeyemi of the Odoaofin clan as the authentic Obaloko-Elect.
This development brings much-needed clarity to the longstanding dispute and reaffirms adherence to due process in the traditional leadership structure of Iloko.
