The pressure for transparency is mounting as Okun citizens intensify calls for an official update on the long-awaited Okun Unity House — a flagship project initiated by the Okun Development Association (ODA) in March 2022 but still uncompleted nearly three years later.
The Unity House, designed to serve as the administrative headquarters and cultural symbol of the Okun nation, was launched with fanfare during a foundation-laying ceremony led by the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, and Hon. Leke Abejide. At the time, the initiative was hailed as a unifying milestone meant to strengthen coordination and foster a stronger collective identity for Okun people.
Today, however, the building stands unfinished, and ODA has yet to issue recent updates on several key concerns, including:
- The current stage of construction
- How much has been raised out of the projected ₦300 million budget
- Specific challenges hindering progress
- A revised timeline for project completion
This prolonged silence has heightened worries across Okunland, with many insisting that a project meant to symbolize unity must itself be managed with openness and accountability.
As questions continue to grow, Okun Reporters aligns with citizens in calling on the leadership of ODA to provide a clear, comprehensive, and verifiable update on the true status of the Okun Unity House. The community deserves transparency — and the project deserves completion.
