Veteran actor claims colleague called him “just a workmate,” ignoring past support and personal bond.

Lagos, Nigeria – A simmering rift has surfaced in Nollywood following veteran actor Austin Emmanuel’s emotional public outburst against his colleague, actor and filmmaker ITELE, accusing him of downplaying their once-close friendship in recent interviews.

In a lengthy post shared from his base in Akamba, Austin Emmanuel expressed deep hurt and shock after hearing ITELE describe their relationship during an interview with actress Biola Adebayo. According to Emmanuel, ITELE stated that the two were “not close friends” and that their connection was purely work-based.

“When I heard that, I screamed,” Emmanuel wrote. “I concluded that ITELE is not a good person, though I am not surprised by his attitude toward me.”

Emmanuel traced the origins of their bond, recalling how fellow actor Don Richard introduced ITELE to him years ago when both were still struggling in the industry. He claimed he began featuring ITELE in his movies, and as Emmanuel’s profile grew, so did their friendship.

He challenged ITELE’s “workmate” claim with pointed personal memories:

· ITELE served as his best man at his wedding.
· They knew each other’s homes intimately.
· ITELE helped organize a surprise party for him when he first traveled abroad.

Emmanuel also referenced ITELE’s relationship with Don Richard, alleging that ITELE now refers to Richard—who once mentored and promoted him—as merely a “work mate.”

“If he claims we weren’t close, how did he become my best man?” Emmanuel questioned. “Today, because he’s reigning, he’s denying knowing me. I’ve learned my lesson.”

The post has sparked reactions from fans and industry watchers, many expressing disappointment while others await ITELE’s response.

The public airing of grievances highlights the often-unseen personal tensions and shifting loyalties within Nigeria’s bustling film industry.
