Nollywood Spat Deepens: Actor Austine Emmanuel’s Claims Met with Fiery Rebuttal from Colleague’s Associate
Lagos, Nigeria – The public dispute between Nollywood actors Austine Emmanuel and Itele D’Icon has escalated after an associate of Itele issued a fiery rebuttal to Emmanuel’s recent interview claims.
Hours after Emmanuel granted an interview reiterating that he introduced Itele to top actors and expressing shock that Itele denied their friendship, a social media user identified as KEMITY—claiming to speak for Itele—launched a sharp counterattack.
In the lengthy reply, KEMITY warned Emmanuel to stop mentioning Itele’s name, threatening to “expose everything you did to me and tell the world who you really are.” The user accused Emmanuel of disrespecting a senior colleague and challenged his narrative of being Itele’s career breakthrough.
“When he shot Oko Oloso, the lead characters were Aunty Toyin and Aunty Bukky Wright. You had not arrived then,” KEMITY wrote. “Itele was established in the industry before you.”
The reply also made personal allegations against Emmanuel, referencing his mother-in-law and wife in terms that suggested unresolved personal disputes. “Where is your mother-in-law that used to give you money to produce movie? Where is your wife? You ungrateful soul.”
The exchange has drawn significant attention within the Yoruba film industry, with fans and observers divided over the authenticity of the claims and the appropriateness of the increasingly personal attacks.
Emmanuel has yet to publicly respond to KEMITY’s rebuttal.
The conflict highlights ongoing tensions around seniority, mentorship, and credit within Nollywood, where public disputes often blend professional rivalry with personal grievances.
